バラ科 【属名】サンザシ属 hawthorn; May flower; pear thorn; thornapple; black hawthorn 700～1000種ある大きな属で、おもに北半球の温帯に分布する。落葉高木・低木。春～夏に咲く花や美しい果実、秋の紅葉などを楽しむ。

バラ科 コックスパーホーソン cockspur hawthorn; cockspur thorn 落葉小高木。枝は長い曲がった刺がある。葉は卵形で光沢があり暗緑色、秋には深紅色に色付く。晩春、桃色雄しべの白い花が咲き、球状の赤い果実になる。
