The correct scientific name was reluctantly changed to Chrysopogon in 1999 by JF Veldkamp [1], because the identity of Vetiveria species and Chrysopogon was confirmed by DNA fingerprinting [2] and Chrysopogon is an older name. However, the name Vetiveria is over 100 years old and is still widely used.

Vetiveria zizanoides can grow in the full range of soil types and does not spread. It is considered the best grass to prevent soil from runoff. It was the best plant among 20 candidates which CSR's Agricultural Experiment Station, Lautoka, Fiji tested.[3]
