Constituent(s) gelose (a carbohydrate). The hydrochloric acid acetic acid and oxalic acid prevent the drug from gelatinizing Action nutritive demulcent laxative. Used for technical purposes in sizing silks and fabrics. When taken internally it is not absorbed but is swells in the intestine and is therefore employed in treating chronic constipation.
